McEwing works in a variety of art mediums, including oil and acrylic painting, printmaking and mixed media. He has exhibited in various solo and group shows across the province.

McEwing also holds a BEd degree (1995) with a major in Secondary Arts (Fine Arts) as well as a BA degree (2000) with a major in Multimedia Studies - both from UNB. He currently resides in Woodstock, where he works from his home studio and teaches Fine Arts courses at Woodstock High School.

McEwing believes strongly in cultivating an awareness and appreciation for the arts within his community. In the summer of 2008, he along with other local arts enthusiasts formed the River Valley Arts Alliance (RiVA). Two major ongoing RiVA projects include the annual Dooryard Arts Festival and the creation of a new arts center in Woodstock.
